Chronicling my life

I suppose I should backtrack and say what I've been up to.
Thursday night Tina came over and did massages for Russell and I. I surely am enjoying relatively regular care! It is so nice to have such a good masseuse in the community.
Friday I did the dreaded bringing of the PageMaker 6.5 version of the NROOGD Green Book into InDesign CS2. Unlike the import into 2.0 and CS, the text came over fine (mostly). But it lost all the images. I installed PageMaker 7.0 and tried to drag and drop images from that but they didn't drop... and they had all turned into bitmaps somewhere along the line. So I'm going to have to practically redo all the graphics in the book. Somehow I don't think this will be finished in time for P'Con! And to add to my general frustration some video program Russell had installed had broken the Adobe Bridge application so I couldn't see what art was on the computer. And clipart.com decided to go down for "maintenance" at 2:15 in the afternoon. What's up with that?! I gave up and went out and ran errands.
Russell and I met at The Tech to see the IMAX movie Roving Mars along with Marina & Arthur. Kurt missed it because he took a co-worker to pick up his car. Bah. It was really cool! It was mostly interviews with scientists at NASA and JPL with animated footage of what the Mars Rovers, Spirit & Opportunity, were seeing that was based on the still images they had sent back. My one quibble is that I'd like it to be a little more clear on which images were based on same vs what might be artist's conceptions. But it was a great pro-science, pro-space film. I'm glad I saw it. Russell and I wanted to go out to dinner but Friday night being what it is, after trying for Poor House (too crowded and load) and Habana (30 minute wait) and Lou's Village (closed 'cause they sold the land), we ended up at Spiedo which had no wait. Oh my. I am so glad we did. I had a pork tenderloin in gorgonzola sauce that was mouthgasmingly good. Oh yum. Yes, I do want to try out new restaurants... but I'm not sad to have ended up at this old fave!
Saturday I got up early and rolled out of bed to get to Oakland before our 9:30 rehearsal to do some caching. About half way there I reached for something in my bag and realized I had left the bag with my script and my GPS at home. Wah! The first cache I was heading toward (had it programmed into my car GPS) was The Delight of Flowers by
slackerstalker. I called her and asked if she would be willing to give an "idiot's hint" to someone who hadn't even a GPS to guide her. She graciously did so and we made a caching date for next Sunday after my rehearsal. Yay! We've been talking about going caching for awhile. I hope the weather holds so we can go tramping in Tilden Park!
After a very good rehearsal (having left my script behind I'm happy to report that I am almost off book) I went out to lunch with various folks at Tropix Caribbean restaurant on Piedmont. Yum! They didn't have seating for a large party so
spidernette and I shared a table. She and I split a plate of fried plantains that was awesome. Luckily I had only ordered a salad for lunch! Nette recommended the chocolate almond creme brulee and we ordered one, each had a taste and then passed it over to the other table. I marked this restaurant on my car's memory of places... I want to go back! Next door was an Asian bead/stone/statue shop where I browsed a lot of things and ended up getting a small jade horse for my car altar and a tiny brass Ganesha and an equally tiny Kuan Yin and the dragon. Not sure what I bought those two for, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. I got home and had dinner with Russell and watched CSI together before we went back to working on our projects.
Sunday we got up, ate and got ready to head for Sonoma for Sacred Connections. It has been a long time since I went to an SC event (and there haven't been as many as of old) and I was really looking forward to it. I had printed out the info on about five Sonoma caches and we left early enough to try for three of them (found two). We grabbed a snack at Cafe Basque and then headed to Art's place for the gathering. It was really nice to reconnect with so many old friends. And what a lovely day and a lovely venue. We did various exercises together. One that was particularly interesting had us first ask questions of ourselves and then of a partner. We were supposed to notice where the questions and answers resided in our bodies. It isn't something I have noticed before, but different kinds of questions and answers do live in different places. Huh. Fascinating. One might expect that "Am I hungry?" engages the belly and "Am I thirsty?" the throat. The interesting things were that "I want" is in my hands. Another question came from between my shoulder blades. *shakes head in wonder at the subjective*
Monday Kurt & I DNF'd four caches. I think that is the first time we've gone out and not even gotten one of our targets. *pout* I'm up to 213 caches. And lest you think I've abandoned Where's George - 1,591 hits with 9,651 bills entered. And my George score is 1,040.17 this morning. Wow! I still hover in the mid-50's in California.
I think our dance rehearsals for PantheaCon are coming together. Next Monday we have a dress rehearsal with the band. I wish I wasn't feeling so stiff. Oh well. I don't have any solos this time, so hopefully people will be watching the troupe rather than me in particular. I think our combined performance is quite fun.
A note for myself, I've had heartburn two Mondays in a row - be careful with the buttery pastries! This isn't fun. Bah. It may be time to go on the no-acid diet again.

Date: 2006-02-07 10:03 pm (UTC)My favorite explanations are "I use hundreds of dollars of receivers and billions of dollars in satellites to go hunting for Tupperware in the woods". Alternatively, I saw it is treasure hunts for adults. Basically people hide a "cache" which ranges in size from your little finger up to giant boxes stocked with a log book to sign. In the larger sizes there are also trade goods. I started doing this last year to try and get myself out walking more. It has pretty much worked. Plus, the hobby of geocaching has put an entire extra layer over the world - I can't pass a park without wondering if there is a cache there. *laugh* I dragged Makai and her daughter caching on our way to rehearsal last week. It is hard for me to go somewhere and not look for at least one.
