My latest letter to Zoe Lofgren
Jul. 30th, 2009 10:42 amYour recent statement on health care is affirming... but I wish you would explicitly advocate for a "public option", as inadequate as that is, to solve the health care crisis in this country. But at least it is something.
I'm not surprised that the millions of dollars per day the insurance companies are spending on Washington lobbying have derailed any meaningful health care reform. But I am saddened. I feel abandoned by my government and I see no end to the downward (or is that upward) spiral of spending as fat cat insurance execs line their pockets at the expense of the people.
Health care, the most basic care of those in need, should not be a for-profit enterprise. People should not fear losing all that they have worked for when faced with catastropic accident or major illness. Please, please do not settle. Fix our broken system.
Thank you.
