A good Saturday

I got up this morning and made a cheesecake that I named "magic cheesecake". (Recipe posted to
food_porn, of course.) I think it came out really well! I had really been in the mood to make a cheesecake these last few weeks and now I've done it. Yay me. None of Russell's relatives sent us good pecans from the South this year so I didn't make a pecan praline cheesecake nor have I been able to make pecan pies or chocolate rum balls. It hardly seems like the holidays! Neither did the thunderstorm. We had one rolling thunder that went on and on and rattled the windows. Amazing anywhere but particularly here where we just don't *get* lightning & thunder.
Cheesecake safely in the 'fridge we braved the downpour to see "Talk to Her" the new Pedro Almadovar film at the Camera One. It was somewhat the same sensibility as his other work but slower and more melancholy. (Not that he makes happy films.) I don't know that I'd recommend it to anyone, but I am glad I saw it. I think bits will stick with me for awhile. Definitely an "art film".
After the film we came back and got the cheesecake and headed off to Petra & Chris's open house. Both sets of parents were in attendance when we arrived along with lots of folks we don't know. As the evening progressed more folks arrived and we did a bit of bellydancing. The four of us who danced had all brought red costumes which was really fun. Instant troupe. Phil was there providing live music along with Petra's brother who did a bit of drumming for us. Live music. What more can one ask!?
kshandra and
dafydd were among the friends there, although we didn't have much chance to chat.
kshandra reminded me we'd originally met at a Callihanicon in Seattle. Wow, it has been awhile! Draco & Selene had motivated my going to that since they wanted to go to Seattle to check out a yurt company as they wanted to live in one whilst they built their house. The yurt has long since become Selene's office and the house has been finished for awhile. Time flies! I haven't been to a Callahans realspace of any kind in years.
