Wow, what a stinker

My imagination was insufficient to imagine how bad a movie National Treasure: Book of Secrets could be. I wasn't expecting much... but wow. mr_kurt opined the writer's strike must have started early. They took all the worst parts of the first movie and magnified them. The plot holes are enormous, the action unbelievable and what's up with the ancient cities all using oil channels that people with torches/flares can come and illuminate the treasure with. That hasn't evaporated or dried to sludge in 300 years or anything. *shakes head* Wow. Please, don't bother. The first movie was a bit of a romp and I was willing to give them a second chance. Bad idea.

OTOH, it was a fairly warm night and I got to ride Big Eli, the ferris wheel, one last time. Tomorrow is the last day of the Winter Wonderland. If it isn't awful perhaps I will ride again. Ferris wheels make me very happy. My whole self goes "Wheeeeeee!" I do realize that sounds daft. Nevertheless, wheeeeeee!!!!

Bummer. We were looking forward to seeing that movie. My daughter enjoyed the first one so much, I
expect we might see it anyway, but probably on DVD after hearing your stinker review. Sigh.

Well, the characters are still engaging. But that wasn't enough to hang a movie on for me. Even the 14-year old with us was unimpressed (which sort of amazed me given that there was lots of *action* which often trumps everything else at that age).

Thanks for the heads up on the movie, I enjoyed the first one somewhat so was planning on seeing the sequel...guess I'll wait for the dvd. And it doesnt sound at all daft to looooooove ferris wheels!!!!!

I am not, in general, a carnival ride-goer. But Ferris Wheels have always been an addiction. Somewhere in Europe Russell and I went on a really, really tall one that even so still had a lot of whee. (I find the kind with gondolas not at all as fun as the ones with just seats that they strap you into.) I was afraid that the really big one wouldn't have the motion I like but it did and amazing views too.

No, the eye is on a scale so big it really isn't a ferris wheel. This was one that was really a ferris wheel - seats they strap you in, but really tall. R&I were trying to figure out where it was and we really don't remember. We ride ferris wheels where we find them. Russell thinks it might have been in Tivoli Gardens but I'm sure it wasn't.

Glad we didn't go see it. We saw 'I Am Legend' instead. Which had sucky zombies, but Will Smith's excellent performance carried it for me.

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/national_treasure_book_of_secrets/ gives it pretty much the same reviews you give it. BUT....there is one that talks about suspending reality....similar to how I view movies! (GRIN)
