So, this is the letter I sent out with my 2006 holiday cards... I wanted to capture it here for my LjBook and *grumble* Lj won't let me post to December 2006 so I've put it at the beginning of the year.

This has been a busy year for me. I thought I would go through my journal <http://rowanf.livejournal.com/> and pick out highlights for each month. If you want details... you know where to find them!

In January I launched my podcast, Interfaith Today (the show notes are at http://www.interfaithtoday.org/ and the feed is at http://interfaithtoday.libsyn.com/). I've done nine shows this year, not as many as I'd've liked but not bad. I am hoping to get a flash recorder during the holidays and be able to do more interviews in the coming year.

In February I attended the PantheaCon festival as usual. One of this year's highlights was a wonderful Brighid ritual with nineteen priest/esses and four Goddesses and lots of helpers. So the early part of the year was filled with much rehearsing. I am not going to take part in 2007 because I am involved in so many other things!

In March I had great plans for making the peace rallies for the 3d anniversary of the war in Iraq starting... but I was sick and didn't make it to anything. So the best thing I can say about March is that I hit the 300 geocache milestone and got myself a nice celebration geocoin. And Coin Quest II started giving a big caching focus.

In April my friend Rayna visited here and I went to Texas to celebrate my parents' 56th wedding anniversary. That is such a cool thing! Russell and I are halfway there at 23 years. I also got my only level five terrain cache -- in the middle of Lake LBJ enabled by my Mum & Dad and Christy's kids.

In May I was the May Queen in the NROOGD's Beltaine ritual. As many years as I have been a Priestess, this is the first time I have been Queen of the May. (I am just more of a Hag of Winter, I guess.) In mid-May Russell and I went to Victoria, BC and had a good time touring Vancouver Island and visiting with our friends, Gary & Sarah. The end of May was marred by the tragic death of my friend Leigh Ann and many memorial services in the various communities we shared.

In June I headed out to Baltimore for my library conference. I came early and cached a new state (and got an APE cache) and met some Where's Georgers. I stayed late and visited with my friends Laurel & Andy who had moved out there as few years ago. I also visited my Aunt Nancy Nelson who is getting up in years. In late June Russell gave me the song he had had written for Erika and I. It was so beautiful, I cried.

In July the Merriam-Webster dictionary added the word "polyamory" to their lexicon. Kurt & I renewed our handfasting vows and went off camping (and caching) in the mountains with a group of friends. We came back and I had an emergency appendectomy.

In August after convalescing from my surgery, I headed off to Florida to visit Rayna & Mic and attend MerryMeet, the Covenant of the Goddess Grand Council. I had a great time feasting, caching and hanging out with many wonderful friends from all over the country. I also went to Grand Council but made time for workshops and rituals too. I reached a Where's George milestone of 2,000 hits in August.

In September Russell and I celebrated our 23rd anniversary by having me join him in Las Vegas for Photoshop World to see the Beatles Experience. Later in the month, I represented the Wiccan community at the International Day of Peace celebrations of two different interfaith communities. In the morning Kurt & I represented CoG at the service at the Center for Spiritual Enlightenment and in the evening I said a prayer at the South Bay Interfaith service.

On October 2nd I hit my first geocaching anniversary. I found 537 caches in my first year. Toward the end of the month I went to the Internet Librarian conference in Monterey and heard about the library initiative in Second Life. I had been thinking about checking out SL for months and this tipped me over the edge... I was registered via wifi by the end of the talk. I went out to dinner with the SL librarians and I think next year will see a lot of reporting about my SL activities!

In November I was cheered by the US national election news, though cynical that it will make a real difference. My friend Rayna came out to San Jose for the American Anthropological Association meetings and I enjoyed seeing her and dipping my toes into the AAA parties and hanging out with her Mayan archaeology colleagues. She is a fellow cacher and georger and we had a great time going for some of the geobead caches. On one of our trips I lost my GPSr, a great hit since Coin Quest III had started. I upgraded to a Garmin 60CSx with a chipset which is much more accurate than my old unit. But financially... ouch! Russell and I had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with much excellent food and good cheer.

It is only the 5th of December as I write this, but I can tell December will be filled with good times with good friends, caching (I finished Coin Quest III yesterday) and a holiday Where's George gathering. Russell will celebrate his birthday and in early January I'll be 53. It has been, barring the appendectomy, a great year!

So, not being a seer, I didn't realize that on 12/9 I'd be rear-ended which greatly coloured the rest of the month! The 11 day headache being really low on my list of experiences to repeat. The caching was greatly curtailed but not halted, the WG Holiday party was fun despite the headache. And I did definitely have good times with good friends. Russell had a great birthday party (more on that in my next entry) and I am looking forward to my birthday next weekend.
