My Independence Day

Yesterday I got up early and made a lemon cake for K&M's BBQ. Then went to breakfast with Brigid & Fiona at Original Pancake House in Los Altos. We gave Fiona her new MacBook for college. I am so proud of her - she got a "5 out of 5" on her AP Calculus test and "4 out of 5" on Psychology. Occidental will give her credits on both of those, I think. Yay Fiona!
We grabbed a nearby cache (my only one since Saturday!) and went home make cupcakes for the neighborhood BBQ and to help Petra paint some more. Painting, esp. grasping the handle of the roller, is unlike any mudras I usually do. My hands are very sore as are my shoulders. Wah! But we did get a good bit done. Hopefully we only one more session, this coming Saturday.
mr_kurt and
saffronrose hosted a great BBQ with Kurt slaving over a hot BBQ to turn out three fred steaks (special blackened tri-tips from a local butcher), hamburgers, hot dogs and kielbasa with cole slaw and baked beans. It was very good. Then my lemon cake was dressed with ollalieberries (from the 17 lbs ofthat had been picked by Kurt & Arthur on Saturday), strawberries and freshly whipped cream. *moan* It was really lovely.
Russell and I went home and napped for about an hour before heading out to the neighborhood BBQ over at Cate's house. Most of the Neighborhood Assn (JJNA) folks were there and it was fun to see people. This has been a really slow year for JJNA and we hadn't seen folks since last 4th of July. *laugh* We heard the horrible stories of the meth houses over on 14th. Mary said it only took about two months for the street to go from liveable to unliveable with thefts and fights and horrible things going on. They are working with the police to clean it up but it was really quite horrific.
Folks walked downtown after the BBQ to watch fireworks. Russell went but I decided bed was a better idea. He said the hearts and cubes were really cool this year. Sleeping was good too. And I still ache from painting. *sigh*
This month's MacWorld mentioned the iTunes Signature Maker (iTSM) which analyzes your music collection and creates a short audio signature to represent who you are and what you listen to. Go to the iTunes Signature Maker - http://www.jasonfreeman.net/itsm/ - click on "gallery" and then search for rowanf to hear my signature.
From today's InformationWeek Daily:
Quotes Of The Day: Liberty
"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it." — Thomas Jefferson
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." — Benjamin Franklin
"But a Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever." — John Adams
"It is seldom that liberty of any kind is lost all at once." — David Hume
"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, to assure the survival and success of liberty." — John F. Kennedy
