Rakkasah weekend
Mar. 19th, 2012 01:27 pmFriday was a busy day. I started the morning with a bit of Second Life time, taking thing back into my inventory and saying goodbye to my garden. I plan to abandon my land before I leave for Costa Rica.
Then I had a phone consult with Caroline Casey who said many wise things about my upcoming second Saturn return and the sky weather for the next two years. Since she was in Costa Rica for the Envision festival a couple of weeks ago she had done CR's horoscope and says that its Neptune is where it was at its "birth" as a nation and that is why it is such a land of dreams. So hopefully it will be a good place for me to have visions of my future.
Then I had tea with Lisa K. who is heading off for six months of South & Central American travel herself. It was really good to encourage each other and share our enthusiasm for our respective ventures.
Then I headed off for a meeting with my SiVIC peeps working on the "Religious Neighbor Next Door" photo project. As soon as I get back from CR I will have to fly into getting a table display ready for the end of the Silicon Valley Reads closing event.
Then I met Petra at Adira's to pick up a red and black striped Saidi dress. It fit me very well but unfortunately hers did not. But I loved it and wore mine to Rakkasah. Hey, even though I wasn't dancing at least I could dress up! I forgot to have Russell take a picture with my camera, so a snap will have to wait until he processes his Rakkasah photos. (As you can see by the accompanying pic, mine are up on flickr.)
Saturday we headed up to Richmond for Rakkasah. Our friend Liza met us there. The line to get in was so long I missed the Mountain Gypsies who were on the main stage at noon. :( The House of Inanna danced at 12:40 on the Caberet stage (the designation just means smaller than main stage rather than a style of dance). They were great! My seat was in the back and there was no flash allowed so my pix are kinda fuzzy, as usual. *rolls eyes* I posted them anyway, I have no shame.
I normally really love going to Rakkasah. But this time really ambushed me emotionally. Sure, I go to watch the dancing; but I also go to shop. Except... laid off. I looked at all the booths and fingered many shiney things. (And I really need to remember http://www.flipntribaldesigns.com/ ) But there was this grief building with every thing I couldn't think of buying. I had no idea it would be so hard. I'm afraid I was a bit of a cranky companion for Russell & Liza.
But we went to Skates on the Bay for dinner (me) and appetizers (them, since they could eat what was on offer at Rakkasah though the catering was even lamer than usual). And although the day was mostly grey, windy and bloody freezing, the sun came out a little so that our view across to the City from the Berkeley marina was clear and sometimes even with blue skies.
Sunday... I pretty much played WoW all day what with Falkenrath Knights and my ICC raid. I did go out to Whole Foods in the middle of the day so that Russell and I won't totally starve this week. *grin* But it was nice and lazy after two days of go go go.
