Prop 8 rally
Nov. 18th, 2008 06:53 amOn Saturday I had a pretty mild stomach ache day. I decided to blow off the annual creeks and watersheds conference and go to the anti-Prop 8 rally at the San Jose City Hall. I walked from home in my rainbow skirt and rainbow dance veil. This elicited several interesting conversaations, all positive with people who commentd on how bright I was looking. *grin* Before the rally got really busy I twirled the veil around to amuse myself. It was also great when we were standing along the street with signs to twirl eye catchingly. This is the first time I've taken a veil to a rally but it won't be the last. I have peace flags and earth flags, I can see twirling them... so much more interesting than standing holding a sign (and easier on my back).
I find myself still numb about the whole election thing. Prop 8's passage took any joy I might have had at national events and turned it dark. Esp. that the minority communities who came out to vote were especially unable to see gay marriage as civil rights issue. And I also find myself wondering if the gay marriage advocates will see poly marriage as a civil rights issue if we ever get that far. I didn't really expect to see gay marriage in my lifetime though, so who knows.
