meetings and youth
Oct. 16th, 2003 05:25 pmWednesday night I had a meeting of the Bridge CC to further plan our Nov. 16 pre-Parliament event. It was at Helen & Don's home in the Oakland hills and we had a really good turnout. I took my parents along and they enjoyed meeting my teammates... and the excellent dinner we shared beforehand from The Holy Land restaurant. Kabobs, falafel, hummus, baba ganoush, pita, etc. Yum! Helen says the place is a hole in the wall at College & Ashby. Perhaps one of these days I'll try them instead of the Mediterrean Cafe when I'm in the mood for kibbeh.
We had an interesting discussion about involving younger people in interfaith. Involving "Youth" is the illusive thing as the individuals keep growing up and away and so it is always a new effort to attract new people. In Cape Town youth had a separate track. It was bold, creative and didn't work because although it gave them access to each other, it isolated them from the main "work" of the Parliament. We talked a lot about the issues and what the Parliament might offer younger attendees. And how the Bridge can interest local youth in our pre-Parliament events. This was interesting but took up a lot of the meeting that was, after all, meant to be planning an event. We did get the things we needed to do, done but weren't able to give them as much time as I'd've liked.
Thursday I was back in at work early but stayed and did lunch with Kurt & Marina as usual on Thursday. We went to The Acorn which was a bit pricey and too salty. And my linguine con vongole upset my stomach for most of the afternoon. *sigh* I think my stomach gets touchier with every passing year. Now I'm playing Snood with the folks again. Nothing much planned for this evening.
