My weekend
Aug. 18th, 2003 07:24 amThursday -
Lots of fun dancing with the Santa Cruz country dance folk. I am getting more familiar with the dances and actually took a male role for a dance. Doing things backwards is a good sign you can do them from the other side. Go me! Not enough sleep.
Friday -
I hurried home from Santa Cruz thinking I might get a nap before the tradespeople started showing up but this wish was in vain. The SBC DSL guy found that it was the noise suppressor on our line that was slowing it down. Oh yeah. I hope we don't start picking up Vietnamese radio on our phone lines again. The guy from the engineering company that is looking at our foundation came and took lots of video but was fairly closed mouth about what he saw. *shrug* I guess when you're going to write a $500 report you don't want to give freebies. I dread hearing how much foundation work we're going to need. Then in the evening we headed off to a full moon circle after which our dear friends D&B stopped by to join the feast.
Saturday
Russell really wanted me to go to the movies with him, but it just seemed like one thing too many. He went to see Freaky Friday and said it was fun but I wouldn't have liked it because it had too many embarrassing moments. I just don't do embarrassing very well.
I made some barbacoa dip and went off to the AMUH House Anniversary Bembe - their 13th year. I went out for Pomba, Oxossi, Oxunmare, The Ibeji and Tyr. I had interesting conversations with Nena (who notes that all Mother Goddesses come from her both by DNA and land and will help us with COG if we win FO), with Yemanja (who says I should take a bath with salt and seaweed and she will send me dreams), and with various other Orixa. Enrique and I were announced for the first time. Twice more to go (with no objections) before we're accepted as devotees.
Then after the Orixa left and the party was starting I zoomed off to D&B's elevations. I stayed late after circle feasting and enjoying the good fellowship. The energy required for two elevations is considerable. Wow.
Sunday
Today I said I'd go to a movie with Russell and we started to see American Wedding. Unfortunately, the projector broke about 70 minutes in and they refunded our money. Drat! Well, it meant I got to head off to the Dennis Kucinich rally on time. But I have no idea when we'll be able to finish the movie. So far it was hilarious!
So I arrived in Oakland and bought some very nice Dennis Kucinich for President t-shirts, picked up a different style button from the one I already have and generally chatted with the various other crazy people who think it might just be possible to elect a candidate who is for working people, for peace and for the public good. Various political luminaries got up and said why they were supporting him, the poet who was on Democracy Now awhile back performed her work and Swami Beyondananda talked about his Right to Laugh Campaign and endorsed Dennis. Dennis called at 4pm but I had to leave because I had a mask rehearsal in the City at 5pm. I had sort of reached my limit on political rallyness anyway. I really think Dennis Kucinich is a good and honorable man and he agrees with just about every political opinion I hold. If history is any guide this means he is totally unelectable. I will volunteer and work for him and probably even (shudder) re-register as a democrat instead of a green so that I can vote in the democratic primary. If people like me *don't* vote for him he certainly doesn't have a chance. But I had reached my limit on clapping and cheering for the day.
I arrived ontime at rehearsal despite horrendous bridge traffic. I do remember when it took less than an hour to go from Oakland to SF. *sigh* It was not the best favored of rehearsals. We were one element short as Larissa had a migraine. We had the CD but no player so we were music free. We went through the blocking one more time and then called it a day. I hung out and visited with Rachael for about an hour and then headed for home where did some packing for MerryMeet and then collapsed. I am running on a definite sleep deficit. *yawn*
