busy me

Obviously life is accelerating! It is Saturday already!

Thursday - Work continues. Had a nice lunch with K&M. Had a Solo Librarian meeting in the evening that caused a couple of moments of panic. *LOL* I evidently haven't synched my palm through all this busy time... so the address of the meeting wasn't with me. So I phone Russell on my cell and had him try Apple to see where my colleague's building was but their operator was gone for the day. Finally (luckily before driving back to Menlo Park to get it off my main computer) I remember that since I had picked up the pizza for the meeting which Wynne had ordered, her phone number must be on the papers on the floor with the pizza. I pulled over and in fact managed to call her and get the address. Phew! It was a good meeting though about half the colleagues there are unemployed and many looking for jobs in the public sector. Oh my. Public library interviews have a reputation for being grueling, but it sounds like it is even worse than usual in this employment climate. And people are being told, after going through the process (creating pathfinders, doing presentations, going before interview panels) that they are unhireable because their experience is in special libraries. If you aren't going to hired them no matter how well they do, then don't make them jump through hoops! Sheesh. Somehow we got into public library horror stories. My favorite was the frog in the bookdrop. Evidently the kids who put the giant frog into the bookdrop were disappointed when the librarians simply rescued it and took it outside. *LOL* Not much phases a librarian, kids, get over it!

Friday was much running of errands. I had to wait for Jack to come by and pick up the typing table I am donating to Planetree so I didn't get on the road until noon. I decided that since I had to drive to Mountain View to go by Global Bead (to get a gift certificate for Teri's bday Saturday and some mardi gras beads for bellydance "belly beads") I would go to Swagat for lunch. That is just too late to eat at Swagat. It was a total zoo and there were no pakoras. Most disappointing. I got a gift certificate for Bob's birthday Saturday at Orchard Supply. I went by the pharmacy and got meds. I drove by Pierre Silber but they don't have any of their vinyl clothing from the web site at the store (it's all special order). Phooey. So I wandered into Leather Masters and all the XTC vinyl stuff was 50% off. Woo hoo. I grabbed a bustier and halter top for like $40. Then I went to Whole Foods and got food for dinner and for the potluck saturday. The Clothestime next door is liquidating and everything was 50% off already marked down prices. I bought a vinyl, leather-look jacket for $8. Only when I am this broke does shopping get so amazing! I finally made it home by about 5:30 and took a break before making pineapple & bay scallops with pasta for dinner. Then Russell and I entertained each other far into the night. I'm *so* glad he's home!!!

It is now Saturday and before too lon we'll head off to Teri & Bob's 120th (her 50th, his 70th) birthday party. The weather is really sucky but I know she planned for that. I expect it will be a lovely party. I hope this rain goes away for the parade tomorrow! Looks like we need to push it East and there is a clear spot after this cloud system judging from the dopplar. I'm *pushing*!

Thanks Mary/JohnO - The Elementss

1. What was the first band you saw in concert?
Gee, I'm not entirely certain. The first one I went to tripping was Alice Cooper. If that wasn't the first it was certainly a revelation. ;-) I may have seen Steppen Wolf before that... but I mostly slept through that concert. Staying up has never been something I'm good at. (I was a minor high school celebrity for havin slept through Steppen Wolf though ;-)

2. Who is your favorite artist/band now?
Well. Hmm. Probably either Yothu Yindi or Jimmy Buffet & the Coral Reefer Band.

3. What's your favorite song?
Lord Fenugreek by Sharon Knight.

4. If you could play any instrument, what would it be?
I always said my instrument is my voice. Of course I haven't keep it in tune lately either. I would love to play something that I could sing with that didn't require me to cut my fingernails. I just haven't discovered what that instrument might be.

5. If you could meet any musical icon (past or present), who would it be and why?
Donovan. Belonging to his fan Donovan's Isle club as a young person was really special - it was basically a gathering place for poets (you had to write a poem or song to gain admission). It was a great inspiration through some fairly dark times.
