a lazy weekend

It's been awhile since I've posted. Life got busy on me or I got off the computer or some combination of the two. :-)
Thursday night I went down to Santa Cruz for the English country dancing and had a really nice time. I wish there was still country dancing in downtown SJ so Russell and I could do it again but coming down to Santa Cruz once a month will do for now.
Friday I was suffering from insufficient sleep and heat and spent the day doing things but getting nothing done. I kept saying I needed a nap but never got one. I shopped early in the morning and bought Tombo tuna to grill... thank goodness it cooled off a bit come evening. I grilled some tiny summer squash I got at the farmer's market along with the fish. Yum!
Saturday I got up early and went out and grilled a chateaubriand for the Bembe. Russell rushed around doing last minute things and headed off to Pagan Pride in Golden Gate Park. I sat down and checked email about 10am and found that the Bembe had been cancelled because too many people were sick. My first reaction was "Darn! I should have checked my mail before Russell left - I could have gone with him." My second reaction was "Cool! I have an entire unscheduled day!" *LOL* So I did dishes, bummed around, went shopping and generally drifted from thing to thing. It was lovely. Russell got home fairly early from Pride as he had fallen and dislocated his shoulder. Luckily Arlynne had ice and motrin that she treated him with on the spot. I was certainly surprised to see his car when I got back from shopping!
We vegged together for awhile and then went to see Dirty, Pretty Things which was quite a good film set in London amongst refugees and illegal immigrants. I found the portrayals of the protangonists and those who prey on them quite believable and moving. I hope we see more of the excellent leaading man, Chiwetel Ejiofor. I thought Audrey Tautou who played the female lead displayed even more personableness and skill than in her role in Amalie.
Then on to circle where despite the heat that made all of us a little punchy we did a job working, two healings and a divination. Go us. We feasted and chatted and I took Russell home, got more motrin and put another ice pack on him and we went to bed.
Sunday we had planned to go to a Sacred Connections event in San Francisco but it had gotten moved to Sebastopol and we decided that was just too far. Just as well as it turns out. Russell went into work for about half the day and I lazed about again. I read a trashy novel and slept mostly. I was going to work on my apron for the Eleusinian but found I didn't actually have the tshirt I had planned to cut up for the base serpent. So I went online and ordered one from Jen Delyth by UPS 3d day so I can at least work on it next Friday. I am dancing Persephone in her Cretan form and I want to emphasis her "first serpent" aspect.
Russell got home from work and we spent a lovely evening together. His shoulder is still bothering him, of course, and neither of slept very well since we couldn't turn and entwine in quite our normal fashion. *yawn*
I am seeing the doc in about an hour to follow-up on my acid reflux. I am happy to say that the 6 weeks bland diet does seem to have done the trick. Yay. I have dodged the horrible diagnostics for the moment.
Bloody cheapskates - "Your soul is worth £14570. For your peace of mind, 62% of people have a purer soul than you." Okay, it is a funny site. But I'm quite sure my soul is worth *lots* more than that!
Okay, that is totally sickening. The man who ditched his Air National Guard duty is now
Elite Force Aviator: George W. Bush - U.S. President and Naval Aviator - 12" Action Figure. I have to say that is an insult to all people who have stepped up to serve their country.

Date: 2003-09-15 11:00 am (UTC)There is a dance in the SJ area (http://www.fussell.org/bacds/mtnview.htm) once again, on Wednesdays. Nice folks.
glad to hear the bland diet is doing what it ought...
that silly site doesn't mention the year of valuation rate on those pounds sterling does it? still grossly undervalued. There must have been a misprint with the exponential part of the expression.
the first thing that comes to mind is, oh, good, a voudoo doll! only I don't do that kind of working....darn!
Someone with nearly too much time on their hands has perpetrated a mosaic portrait of that AWOL puppet in the oval office by means of a pastiche/mosaic of photos of a-h*les,

Date: 2003-09-18 10:26 am (UTC)I actually bought a Bush voodoo doll at the October peace march last year. I sewed a heart shaped button on him and have been trying to surround him with compassion and education about various things. I top it up every Friday and in the meantime the doll is wrapped in a pro-choice bandana. :-) I just couldn't resist.

Date: 2003-09-18 12:02 pm (UTC)-oh! but of course! now THAT kind of working I do... I love the image!
(but no $40 doll is gonna be my base...)
I'm inclined to try and puzzle out a little better who-all the puppeteers are and send some heartfelt prayer in their direction, as well.
Paper dolls for world peace...here we come...
