SAFE Earth Day

The NROOGD South Bay brunch was a blast! Great conversation and amazing food... who could ask for more? Melissa thinks we should have them about every other month. I offered our house for the next one and Nette offered hers for the one after that. Fun! It is so cool we're getting a local trad community down here.
Then off I went to the SAFE Interfaith Earth Day. SAFE is a Bay Area interfaith ecology movement that brings together people from many spiritual traditions who care fo the earth. When I arrived at Portview Park it was sunny and although windy quite warm (high 60's I'd guess). At about fifteen minutes before our 4pm start the temperature dropped 10-15 degrees and continued to get colder (and it started to rain) as we began the ritual. Evidently the Native Americans started their exhibition dancing with a Rain Dance. How awkward is that?! *LOL* We went ahead in the sprinkle and wind. The Norse folk were once again bragging on their wool cloaks. *grumble* I was wearing my watery Celtic dress which is just two layers of cotton. By the end Macha looked over and said "You have goosebumps on your breasts!". It was really cold by then. I did the blessing of a Wiccan blessing for the Pomo-style reed boats that we sent out to sea with blessings and prayers of gratitude for all the earth and sea have given us. The boats were blessed by a Catholic, a Protestant, a Buddhist, a Native American, a African Traditional from Malawi, a Shinto priest, me and Diana for the Heathens. So two monotheists, a non-deist and five pagans of various sorts. Heh. I like that! We were supposed to have a Sufi Sheik but he evidently didn't show. That would have evened things out a little. Anyway it was as awesome as last years but it was a very fine ritual and I'm really glad I had a chance to participate.
Okay. Now I'm going to go see if there is anything I can unpack so my suitcase isn't totally stuff. *wry grin* I may not be able to write for awhile. I don't really know what to expect in the way of internet cafes on the Somerset and Welsh coasts. :-)
