The job search, unemployment and such

Went to a class at Nova/Connect over in Sunnyvale on Job Tips for the Mature Worker. Gah. I really hate the current trend (reality?) of downplaying one's accomplishments to downplay one's age. WTF a resume covering only the last 10-15 years when my last *job* was 20 years? "Functional resumes" with no dates?! *facepalm* And all the classes are so geared toward the everyperson who has a job which every company has a lot of - accountant, customer service, programmer, whatever. I really don't feel like I can choose a company I want to work for and do a lot of research on it. To a large degree I have to wait for jobs to show up and then do research on the company. Or firm, most of the things I have seen have been in law firms. And I still am hesitant to work for lawyers again. Gah.
Oh, I found out why I haven't gotten a debit card for my unemployment. Evidently the card I got when I got a bit of disability a year or two ago was good for 3 years and they have been putting the money on that. I had it cancelled and a new one mailed. Who knows where the old card is, I probably cut it up. Would have been nice to know. And it wasn't the EDD who could help me with it but BofA. But at finally got EDD on the telephone... by going into the local EDD office and using their line.
I would have gotten into the July 31 ProMatch group but we're driving back from Fairieworlds. So the wait would have only been a month. Not as bad as it sounded. I suppose the next chance will be just before England. I hope they'll let me go to one after I get back. Then I will really be ready, I think. Althought ProMatch is like having a job in Sunnyvale with at least some of the sessions at 8am. So *grumble* in anticipation about the commute. I wonder if I can find a telecommute job. I'd really like to not to have to drive so far for my next job.
And I got the rollover IRA check to sent off to my new/old money managers. I am so glad to be gone from the stupid company Ricoh is currently using. Their customer service is beyond bad into abyssmal territory.
