It's funny, different folks directly from Africa interpret the question of practice outside Africa differently.
I was reading a website the other day for a West African Vodun group, and one of the things they said that I was so relieved to have confirmed is that they not only don't expect people to come to Africa or Haiti to initiate to the Loa, they fully expect that a proper initiation must be placed wherever you live. They point out that if this were not true, it could never have come to Haiti in the first place.
This is what I've been feeling and thinking all along, so of course I think they're very wise ;p
