Working at the Adocentyn Research Library
Oct. 11th, 2012 08:32 amAt the last Adocenty Library board meeting Glenn and I had talked about my coming up and staying in her back building (which has never had a cat living in it) to get in multiple days at the library. So this week, I went up on Tuesday and got to the library about 10am. I worked until 3:30 or so and then headed over to Glenn's. We visited and had dinner with Don & Anna and Gus at Fat Apples. I was back at the library by about 7am and worked until noon. Actually working hands on gives me a better handle on taxonomy also. I consider it very successful and will overnight in Berkeley regularly whilst I'm not working to get the library in better order. We have also instituted Second Sunday Work Parties, in case anyone wants to come and enter books into our database on Librarything or shelve books.
I also told Don I would take over the organizing of the Esoteric Library Association or whatever we end up calling our association of Pagan, Wiccan, esoteric and metaphysical libraries. We first thought Pagan Library Association but PLA is Public libraries, of course. So I am looking at library association mission statements and trying to figure out what the actual benefits to having such an association would be - sharing extra copies of books/journals, sharing best practices, etc. I should also think about whether to join the American Theological Library Association and see if they have anything useful (or whether it is all so mainstream as to be a waste of time).
