Chalk art festival
Sep. 22nd, 2012 04:15 pmToday I rousted myself out and went to the pharmacy and on to the Luna Park Chalk Art Festival. It is in its fifth year and has been growing steadily. It is a fun mix of professional artists, amateurs and children. If I could get down on the ground for an extended period I would totally do a square. Having seen that one can get 1/4 squares I may do one next year. I have taken the prep class for the last two years so I do know how crazy it would be. But I love the idea of ephemeral art made to be enjoyed for a day and then gone.
It was very hard to photograph, something I hadn't really thought about. The angles are all wrong and the artists who have shade often have partial shade that makes the design really hard to see. The folks who put those open tents over their squares are brilliant though. I felt sorry for artists in the full sun... even though it was way easier to take pictures of their work!
There were a bunch of food trucks, but happily I had already eaten since there was nothing I could have. I had the amazing Blaenafon Cheddar I got at St Fagan's in Wales. As their website says, "This cheddar is flavoured with the finest Welsh whisky and ginger preserve to give sweetness and warmth to the cheese." And some almonds. I think I will actually try to make something for dinner that will serve several meals. I really need to get to Safeway for low carb tortillas but I couldn't face the big one on a Saturday and I don't think the little one downtown carries them. (Taking a package of tortillas to London where we had a microwave was such a good idea! I had casodillas available to stave off cravings for meat pies and other such carb-filled treats.)
