Thursday was chorus practice for Saturday Bembe. We had a light turnout and mostl did planning. Erika & Reaps were crashing at our place again and it was nice to have some family time. I had all kinds of things planned for Friday inworld but three classes got cancelled. I did go to an SLCC meet up, a librarian party and a tiny party in the evening. Pictures at flickr. *grin* But I also got out and about and did some shopping. Russell & Erika & I had dinner together of the al fresco sort - cheeses, salame, kielbasa and fruit with fresh baked bread and crackers. And chocolate martinis. *grin*

Saturday my friend Az had a lovely inworld handfasting. This was the first inworld wedding I have attended and I was the photographer! I had a great time and took about 350 pictures (of which about 50 I deleted right off the bat). I need to get with my friend and see whether she wants all the shots or if I should do a "wedding album" like one might get from a photographer. If I have time to do such a thing! We shall see.

Then Kurt & I went off to the House Anniversary Bembe. The day was very, very hot and there was no breeze until about 3:30... which is when we finally got started. I have a hard time with not being timely (too Capricorn probably) and my energy was flagging. I rallied and horsed Oxossi, Pomba and Oxumare but had to leave at 6pm and so missed La Baleine whom I had hoped to horse again. We headed over to [livejournal.com profile] rutemple's birthday party and had marvelous food and chatted with friends old and new. But my energy was *really* going away and Kurt took me home where I showered and fell over.

Sunday morning it became obvious that all that flagging energy was my immune system going to the mat with a virus. I spent most of the day sleeping. I had meant to go to a Sacred Connections event and see about 40 close friends. Good thing I figured out I was sick before exposing all of them! But bah! I was really looking forward to it and I'm missing everything else scheduled for his fall so who knows when I will get to touch base with that community. Ah bah. *sigh* But at least I was home to get my father's phone call about my mother's stroke.

Today I am home sick and fairly out of it. And that is caught up. Oh, and conjure is moving servers and seems to be totally not happening. Please write me at gmail. I should change my livejournal forward to there I suppose.

When I was a child, my parents were very definite about a ritual they had - neither would leave the house without kissing the other goodbye. They said an insurance study had shown that people who were kissed before they left the house had fewer accidents. But that was really just an excuse to show their love for each other. I have continued the practice of "insurance" in my marriages too.

Sunday morning, my father went into to kiss my mother goodbye as he went off to play some early morning handball (or something like that). She said something nonsensical and he recognized that she had had a stroke and called 911. If he hadn't been a physician himself and if he hadn't had the lifelong habit of kissing her goodbye things might have gone much worse. As it is she is recovering very well. Mum passed her cognitive tests this morning with ease and they will probably only keep her in hospital another 24 hours. We hope for a full recovery.

Thank you to all my friends in various networks who are sending her energy. I really appreciate it and along with the prayers of her community and my father's quick action it seems to be doing the trick.
