SL, Netsquared, ICP & TOSs
Apr. 11th, 2007 09:28 amIt has been rather a trying week for me in Second Life. Monday night things from my tavern in Renaissance Island started hitting my inventory via autoreturn. It turned out that the fellow who had donated the island to the Alliance Library System had run into a patch of rough and decided he couldn't continue funding it. Evidently Sunday night he had notified ALS that he was pulling out and they had until a couple of months to find alternative funding. Then Monday he lost it and went in and started deleting and autoreturning things. I was totally freaked out. I had just rented the tavern on Sunday and spent the afternoon looking at things around SL and buying furniture (with the able advice of
elvisomar and
mr_kurt). I was fascinated to find I have over three hours of period music on my iPod and I remember several CDs yet to be ripped which will add to my collection. I was all figuring out which were dances, which were quiet listening music and such to stream to the tavern. And then BOOM! No island. No tavern. No shop. I was totally flummoxed! Today, it is all back - with a new donor and a backup provided by the Lindens. So I have it all back... but I have to confess that I'm still a bit unsettled.
I have been going through the projects submitted for the NetSquared Innovation award and I must say this is an impressive bunch of social action projects! (I haerd about it becauseInfo Island submitted a proposal.) It is open for voting all week and I hope they leave the descriptions in place. A standout for Californians interested in state politics is MapLight which connects campaign contributions and votes in the California legislature. The video tour sounded great. Winnowing my choices down to 10 out of 150 to vote for will be a challenge!
Tuesday night I went to the Interfaith Center at the Presidio for the monthly potluck. The topic was the exhibit I've been docenting with Lynn Scher (exhibit manager) and Armelle LeRoux (principal artist) as the featured speakers. I recorded it. Hopefully I can get a podcast out soon. It has been months! Interfaith Today is not far from pod-death unless I can make it more of a priority. *sigh*
I read a rather disturbing report in eweek yesterday called Harvesting Teenagers. It reminds me why I'm such a fanatic about reading TOS and privacy policies on websites. Holy cow.
