recent movies
Sep. 27th, 2005 07:58 amRussell and I went to see Corpse Bride last night and I really liked it. What a Ghede feast! I'll bet he wants it played in his honor from time to time. Some of the skeleton scenes remind me of old Betty Boop cartoons like St. James Infirmary. Smokin'! Not that Danny Elfman's music is as memorable as that great Cab Calloway number. In fact, Elfman's music for this was fairly forgettable thoughout.
And looking back I see that I never mentioned seeing The Constant Gardener Thursday night, which I also liked alot. It had some of the failings of Le Carre's recent novels in that all kinds of folks unaccountably confess in the end so that the plot threads get tied together. It was interesting to see his Cold War themes coming through as big corporations. The performances were very good. It is not an easy movie, but I think it is worth seeing.
