Fourth of July
Jul. 5th, 2005 11:07 amThe Julian-St. James Neighborhood Assn barbeque was great fun. It was the first event I have attended that wasn't either a meeting or holiday caroling. It was nice to spend leisurely time visiting with folks from the 'hood. We mostly visited with Pete & Debbie who live on 13th. Debbie does polymer clay art and sells it at various shops. Pete runs a floorcovering business. We found lots to talk about whilst eating really stellar potluck items. Our hostess, Cate, had make Buccanneer Chicken (though she wasn't able to find sugar cane to grill it over so she said it was probably only Pirate Chicken). *grin* And her husband had slow cooked a pork shoulder (including crackling) on the grill. Oh yum. Plus there were lots of side dishes and homemade ice cream. The lavender ice cream was my favorite. And someone had made really yummy sangria that had strawberries floating in it. Pete and I ate most of the strawberries from the pitcher once the wine was gone. It reminded me to eating champagne soaked peaches at
kelathefinn's wedding all those decades ago.
I decided I was too tired for fireworks and Russell decided he'd rather drive than walk with the neighbor folk. He parked about 6 blocks away and took the lightrail down. He walked out and said it worked perfectly. He thought the fireworks were good but that they used the same soundtrack as last year. I tried to go to sleep but it sounded like WWIII was erupting outside. There were a lot more fireworks all weekend than usual. I wonder if there was some difference in the legality this year because it rained so late. I turned on the air conditioner to make some white noise and tried to sleep. I really didn't get enough sleep all weekend long.
Today I have a mammogram and an oral surgeon appt in the afternoon. Oh joy. I shall be leaving for those soon. This evening I'm hoping for a quiet evening at home with Russell.
