I had a lovely, quiet weekend. I didn't even go online until Sunday night... very unusual for me! Friday [livejournal.com profile] spikeiowa and I braved the Gilroy outlet malls. It wasn't bad at all, there was plenty of parking and good bargains to be had. I can be argued (and has been by Russell) that I didn't *really* need to have matching champagne glasses for my whole Tuesday dinner crew. And he may be right. I'm considering offering some of them on Ebay. But that isn't because I don't want matching glasses but because I don't really want lead crystal. They were so beautiful I didn't notice that crucial fact. Buying frenzy struck, I guess.

Saturday we went to see the Return of the King. On the whole I was happy with it. I think the existence of the Minas Tirith palantir would have given a greater reason for Denethor's madness and I missed the harrowing of the Shire (and Christopher Lee's Saruman) but I concede the movie was plenty long enough! The giant oliphaunts are totally cool and Shelob was well done. I liked the glimpses of Deagol & Smeagol finding the ring. Altogether quite satisfying and I look forward to watching all three films together.

Saturday night we had our Yule circle and then headed off to Linnea's for an all night vigil for the (almost) longest night. By the time we crept up Hwy 17 in the pouring rain, it was 12:30am and only the staunch vigilers were there. Linnea, Tom, TC & Denise, Penny & Richard and Russell and I - all friends of close to (or more than) 20 years! It was just lovely to sing carols, tell stories, reminisce about days gone by and generally hang out with people that I really care about. When "sunrise" time arrived the fog was too dense for a glimpse of the sun but we declared it risen and had a lovely breakfast of fresh blueberry coffeecake, etc. I took a short nap and then we headed home. We watched some video and then went out to shop for printer photo paper, a high intensity lamp and some certificate paper for the COG Youth Interfaith Essay. The latter was the only thing we got despite stops at Office Max and Fry's. We decided we'd had enough of crowds at that point! Russell went out with Petra & Chris and [livejournal.com profile] ocean_song to look at holiday lights and I got started on the mousakka for Tuesday dinner. I had meant to get them all assembled except for the bechamel sauce but the cheese grater was in the dishwasher and by then it was almost 9pm and I decided that going to bed was the better part of valor. Assembling the finished trays won't be that bad on Tuesday.

I remember that i was planning to mention my daily gifts on my blog. And now I can't even really remember when I started opening presents. Bah! So let me go back from yesterday and we shall see....

Yesterday I opened the small square box from Russell which turned out to be the opal and cubic zironia necklace he bought me at a bijou shop in Paris. I bought the matching tennis bracelet which was also in the box. It is *so* beautiful, even better than I remembered it being! Today I am wearing it and just glowing with happiness.

Yesterday I also got to open a bag from [livejournal.com profile] ocean_song when she came by filled with yummy shortbread cookies, a Guardian Angel candle and a bracelet I am wearing on the same wrist a the opals amongst other small things.

Saturday I opened my circle presents, a bag of goodies that included a snake ornament, rainbow toe socks, a lemon truffle and other goodness.

Friday I got a box from my Amazon wishlist from my mother - The Bellydance Book, The Woman Who Knew Too Much: Alice Stewart and the Secrets of Radiation and Joanne Shenandoah's new album, Covenant. I have been listening to Covenant all weekend, it is her usual lovely vocals but with more instrumental backup.

Thursday I opened some beautiful ornaments from Marina, a Witch and an owl.

Wednesday I opened the leather rose bodice which I see I mentioned in my Thursday journal. Okay! My memory is better than I thought. :-) I'm amazed the days came out right.

Thank you world for this beautiful season! May the gifts I have been given and the gifts that I give bring happiness and plenty into our lives.

[livejournal.com profile] ocean_song mentioned a Make Your Own Snowflake utility. I have been having too much fun. :-) Snowflake #1; Snowflake #2; Snowflake #3. Okay, I'll stop now. This is fun though!
