searching is what I do

spikeiowa and I headed off in Monterey for Internet Librarian. I spent the whole day in an internet searching class. It was a very good class. There were four speakers all of whom really knew their stuff. My problem was... I knew it all already and could have pretty much given any one of the four pieces of the talk. Granted I would have relied on the expertise of some of the speakers to do so - Greg Notess of Search Engine Showdown in particular but also Chris Sherman of Search Engine Watch and Mary Ellen Bates of the Super Searcher series. But it did leave me feeling competent. However, next time I have the chance to take a class I should take it in something that will augment rather than simply reinforce what I know!
After class
spikeiowa and I met up in the area where the "communities of interest" were gathering and we mingled for awhile before finding the rooms the BoFs were actually meeting in. I had a glass of a Chateau Julien merlot which was strangely oaky. Not a wine I'd care to meet again. After chatting with folks in the search BoF,
spikeiowa and I wandered back to our hotel where I discovered that I don't have dialup access in Monterey. *sigh* I almost wish I had paid twice as much and stayed in a conference hotel. At least that way I'd have wireless internet access for $8.95 a day. They'll have internet terminals in the dealer's room here but not before Tuesday.
