progressive grumbling
Oct. 22nd, 2003 11:24 amThe Interfaith Alliance sent out an alert today called "Recent Barrage of Hate Speech Unbelievable" which summarized some of the current events I have been ranting about (not so much here as in ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-community.gif)
infojunkies). Honestly. Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, General Boykin, the religious fanatic. Pat Robertson saying that God was trying to destroy the Episcopal Church (as evidenced by the elevation of Rev. Gene Robinson). Various other folks making anti-Semitic remarks. Hate speech doesn't help anything. So all that took me to Witness for Civil Liberties Weekend is this weekend, October 24-26, 2003. Another great idea with some really excellent resources. But the closest event to San Jose is Salinas or Petaluma. There are so many people doing such great work... I really wish we could build better coalitions and communicated more widely!
And I recently realized I never sent in my application for "Training for Social Action Trainers" and it is now full. Bah humbug. Life is just overwhelming sometimes. I filled out the form, addressed the envelope but never wrote the check and mailed it. They do say it will be repeated in the spring since the response was so good. But who knows whether I'll be able to schedule it in. *sigh*
My next big push is a Dennis Kucinich rally in San Jose on November 8th. I don't know yet what I'll be working on (and I had to miss last night's meeting) but that should be a goodness. And then there is the Bridge pre-Parliament event November 16th. I suppose it is just as well I didn't hear about this weekend any earlier. As it is, Russell and I have planned a weekend together. We have made a pact that neither of us can schedule ANYTHING ahead. We're going to sleep, make love, go to movies and generally veg. This is a great goodness.
