the first days in Reno
Urgh. I really did just have rice cakes and gin for breakfast. No, I'm not turning alky. I got up at 6am to register some bills on where's george and there was 1/2 of last night's Gibson sitting on the table completel with cocktail onion (1 of 3). I just started sipping. This drink was $4 and about 4 ounces of gin. I *so* could not drink that all in one whack last night. I guess it is supposed to make you gamble but I haven't even put a nickle in the slots. I will probably play the Wheel of Fortune that Raven set up for COG with the sabbats and other magical things in place of numbers. The odds are bad, but at least the $$$ goes to a good cause. *LOL*
Okay. Let me see if I can muster a coherent journal entry.
Wednesday I flew to Reno after spending a nice early morning with Russell who worked at home for a few hours so he could take me to the airport. I was met by Rachael and we went to lunch. Then Jane picked me up and took me on a tour of UNR and her office in the Fine Arts building. She has lots of cool witchy things. We went up to her house (more cool witchy things - I esp liked the antique witchy postcards displayed in picture frames). She and Gary took me out to a really good Chinese restaurant and I stuffed myself with sushi and dim sum.
Thursday was the Leadership Institute and I took the intensive on teaching taught by Ardantane. Amber & Azrael had some good material but for all the emphasis on alternative modalities it was pretty much lecture. And the seats were incredibly uncomfortable. I wanted some movement really badly!
Yesterday I spent the whole day in Grand Council. Lots of reports, candidate statements and proposals. I missed the talk on Greek Religion 'cause I just didn't feel like I could leave. I thought we'd get to talk about our interfaith report and then I had to do candidate statements. And then I realized I'd totally missed it. I hope I can make the Dionysos talk today! Depends on where GC is. Why am I a COG wonk? The Finans looks like they have a lot of support from the Southern California folks. Maybe Glenn & I will lose the election and I will just do interfaith (as best I can under the Finans who don't think COG should do interfaith). Not that I would stop. I am not dependent on being in COG to do interfaith but it does provide so many benefits for the Wiccan and Pagan communities that COG *has* been doing interfaith. It will be a shame if that gets reined in by provincial first officers.
I schmoozed some last night and met some nice new folks and had good visits with old friends. I got to bed by 11pm though, so I got 6-7 hours of sleep. I guess I should go get some *real* breakfast to float on my gin before I start another day of sitting on hard chairs listening to COG business. At the moment I doubt my wonk-ness but I know I'll just sit there (and maybe play solitaire on my PDA).
