Saturday at BayCon
May. 25th, 2003 09:10 amSaturday Russell wanted to go to the Mini Gourmet for breakfast so I didn't get to the Con until after the wing contruction talk at 10am. But it was nice to spend time with him and to start the day with a good breakfast. :-)
I hit the art show and then went to the EFX makeup demo. The "room" where the costuming programming was scheduled was the 9th floor elevator lobby which was *awful*! The makeup artist and his model were set up against the wall of windows and as the demo progressed became more and more backlit. By the end I didn't feel like I'd seen what was going on and I had a headache from looking at the sky. I had pretty much figured on doing costuming programming all day so this was a blow to my plans. I headed downstairs and sat in the sunken bar area where I was soon joined by various folks. I do miss the older and larger sunken bar but even in its reduced state it is a good place to hang out and see folks.
After another turn through the dealer's room I met Russell who had arrived to hear the "Best & Worst" movies panel. Unfortunately, it was moderated by Tom Dilligan who never seems to have prepared anything for his panels and his co-presenters were just as lame. *sigh* We seem to make this discovery every year because the topics of panels he gets on are things we're interested in.
Then on to trailer park where we hung out in line with
the_ogre,
7patches,
rjmwell and other friends. It was a totally lame trailer park and certainly no worth waiting for. It consisted of a universal studios reel that didn't even seem to have been picked for an SF&F audience and there were no extended trailers or other material. Bah humbug! I stood (well sat) in line for this!? I can see the trailers for Legally Blonde and Bruce Almighty anywhere. We wandered through the art show and dealer's room and then met Kurt & Marina for dinner. Kurt was worrying about his flight to Japan and not feeling very hungry. We went out to the Red Sea and had a nice family-style meal so that the hungry ones could eat and those less hungry could have a nice choice of dishes.
Back at the Con, Russell decided he didn't have energy for the evening's parties and went home to bed. I hung out with my friend Teri and we wandered some room parties (I caught up on my Space Cadet merit badges) and then wound up at Screamwork's and danced. I ran into Kurt & Marina there and it was fun to dance with them and with Jeff whom I had met Thursday. At about 11:30 I decided I should head for home.
