So after a long day at work I headed of to the AMUH Exu devotional at BFUU. There were a couple of new folks and several House members were missing - Bear still in hospital from his motorcycle spill (though expected home tomorrow with walker), Maeva & Bruce were in contractor hell, others simply absent. There were only two senior mediums to handle the consultations instead of the usual five or six. I got an Omolu consult and asked about my shoulder. He says heat, stretching and a "bone doctor" (chiropractor, I think). I have been forgetting the heat. During the Exu dancing I went out briefly twice. I really don't like that the way the Orixa seem to interact with me is kind of like surfing my brain. They hit the tops of the waves and are gone. I dont' feel like I get very good contact. Oh, Sharon made a funny remark about getting our "Orixa-cise" as we dance and chant for the deities. Yep, that's what I go for. ;-) Love that dancin' and chantin'.

Heard the news about "freedom fries" in the congressional lunchroom. As those they have anything to do with the French anyway. Sometimes I am just ashamed to be an American. During WWII they called sauerkraut "freedom cabbage" so as not to have it associated with Germans. *sigh* Bloody idiots.

There was a good article in Monday's Chronicle about the library in Santa Cruz warning readers about the Patriot Act. Good for them. It also mentions that Rep. Bernie Sanders, Ind-Vt., introduced a bill last week to repeal the library and bookstore provisions and that the bill's 23 co-sponsors include four Bay Area Democrats -- Reps. Barbara Lee of Oakland, Lynn Woolsey of Petaluma, Sam Farr of Carmel and Pete Stark of Fremont. I'll have to send a letter to my rep asking her to join.

I guess I'll go back and see if the machine I need to get my work done is back in service. *sigh* I have this *mountain* of work and I can't get through to the machine with the files. Stress, what stress?›

I'll go!

Coleman Barks, well-known Rumi translator, was at the National Cathedral nave in Washington, DC, on Feb. 26), reading Rumi's poetry with a cello accompanist. He offered one of his own "not very poetic" poems:

Its long so I'm hiding it. Please read it anyway. )

Today has been one of contrasts. The stress of work, of needing to get things done but not quite having enough clout or resources to necessarily make things happen. My mother was on IM and listened to me rant so that i wouldn't say anything unfortunate to my co-workers. Bouquets to her for her gracious ear. The pleasure of getting out to walk with Kurt at lunch. We went perhaps half our usual walk as he's recovering from the flu and I could actually keep up. *laugh* My mail has been full of news both work related computer industry stuff and forward to mail about the possible war against Iraq. My mail has been full of hopeful thoughts from the interfaith community and others.

One of my favorite forwards today is the poem Pray for Peace by Ellen Bass. Okay, I can't resist a sample... read the whole poem!

Make the brushing of your hair
a prayer, every strand its own voice,
singing in the choir on your head.
As you wash your face, the water slipping
through your fingers, a prayer: Water,
softest thing on earth, gentleness
that wears away rock.

Making love, of course, is already a prayer.
Skin and open mouths worshipping that skin,
the fragile case we are poured into,
each caress a season of peace.

If you're hungry, pray. If you're tired.
Pray to Gandhi and Dorothy Day.
Shakespeare. Sappho. Sojourner Truth.
Pray to the angels and the ghost of your grandfather.

I've been trying to do this. To be constantly thinking and acting from a place of peace that peace might spread out from me. It is hard when the stresses rise, when the work overwhelms. But I have been doing a pretty good job of being mindful, of launching little bursts of peace energy into the universe. I have a new poster of Mirror Lake that is one of Russell's discards of his photos from the giant printer at work. I look up into the blue sky over Yosemite, at the trees and mountains and I take that feeling of peace in nature and send it out into the world. May Peace Prevail on Earth!
