Saturday
I awoke very slowly Saturday morning. Russell helped get the mural in the car and I headed off for the Con. Carrying the mural I was taking surface streets. Imagine my surprise when First Street was suddenly diverted onto 880 North with n o warning. Eeek! I got off again as quickly as possible but it was quite harrowing, worrying about losing the Brigid mural on the highway! And it took a lot longer to get to Con than I had originally planned, arriving about 10:15. I asked for Con tech h elp to get the mural up but was saved by the assistance of a hotel employee who kindly found a screw driver. (Note to self -- alway carry hammer & phillips head when transporting mural!!) We were still working on it when Don & Anna came by and I talked to Don about our 11am talk. Don went off to find Paul Chaffee and Brigid was safely in her niche in time for us to get up to our function room and get set up. So everything was fine but the anxiety level was higher than I'd like!

Our talk was called "Paga n ism & the Interfaith Movement: A Conversation" and the idea was that Paul would talk about the interfaith movement from his position as a UCC minister and head of the Interfaith Center at the Presidio and he would ask Don & I questions about our experie nc es as Wiccans involved in interfaith. I had some trepidation about this format and to some degree it was justified... although not in the way I expected. Paul introduced the topic and asked me for my introduction which I gave. Then he asked Don for his in tro. Fine. Then he and Don swapped "this reminds me of" stories and I hardly said another word. What I had been worried about was the lack of structure. Y'know that dynamic where the males take over a conversation? I think that is what happened. It n ever occurred to me that the lack of structure and my politeness would work against my contributing the way it did. If I had thought of it ahead of time I might have been able to mitigate it. I really hate that whole male/female discussion dynamic and thi nk o f myself as holding my own... until I don't. *sigh* But most of the folks I talked to afterward said they enjoyed the talk. (A couple of women *did* mention they'd noticed the guys took over.) It was an interesting lesson. Paul had been very complime ntary to Don & I and our work. It is hard to listen to praise. That was a theme today!

After the talk I went to lunch with Dennise Brown, a Brighid priestess who had been at our talk. We had a nice chat and she showed me her Brighid notebook with articles she'd written from the Beltane Papers and other Brighid info she'd collected over the years. She is moving down to Santa Cruz next week and hopefully we'll keep in touch.

Kurt & Marina came by whilst we were at lunch and after lunch I met up with them in th e vendor room. We wandered around looking a things and Kurt bought a cut velvet shirt and I bought a velvet bodice. He wore his the rest of the day. Yum! After another visit to the NROOGD suite, I headed off to "2003 Interfaith Pagan Pride Parade" w here M icha, Arlynne & Katya introduced the Parade to a very small audience. My impression was there were only two people there who had never heard of it. Micha was very lauditory about Russell and my contributions to the Pagan community. I wanted to craw l under the table! One odd note, Micha mentioned that there was an "honor guard" available of Rennaissance Knights with foils. Funny after all those years in the SCA and other mock fighting, but I feel fairly uncomfortable about that idea. I have been t rying to take the language of war out of my speech ("gathering the troups", making a push, hitting a target", etc.) and having an armed guard kinda squicks me. Russell is okay with the idea but I just don't think it works for me.

After another stint in the vendor room, Kurt & Marina, Russell and I went out to dinner at Il Fornaio. Thus we did not get back in time for the start of 7pm programming but I did manage to hear a bit of the Moonrise concert. They are sounding really good and have a CD planned. Yay! Then Kurt & Marina & I chanaged into our fancy dress and headed over to the Masquerade Ball. I was wearing my rainbow faery outfit and felt rather out of place in the halls. There were other Faerie folk at the Ball but I didn't recognize anyone. J'te told me next day that the Faerie Horde never coalesced this year. I went down to Loren's concert and enjoyed the first hour of it but by 10pm I was yawning more than listening and took myself home to bed.
