my weekend

Friday we had an appointment with the engineer to talk about the foundation work. We agreed that he should draw up plans and we'll start talking to contractors. Since the last time we looked into this a dozen or so years ago they have come up with new hardware for bolting houses and it sounds like we'll finally be able to earthquake prepare our house a bit better. It will be expensive but it seems more than worth it. I engaged in various life maintenance activities (like having my fingernails air brushed and my eyebrows waxed - not that *anyone* has noticed the latter). Then we had a nice circle in the evening. It was a good day.

Saturday we went to see Lost in Translation. Ebert really liked this movie but I found it incredibly tedious. I think just about every scrap of dialog was present in the trailers or the review. There was an awful lot of characters looking out of windows feeling melancholy. Okay! I get it! They are depressed. Can we have some actual story now please!? *sigh* I am re-thinking my review of Underworld. Yes, the acting sucked but at least something was happening!! Then we went on to the Art Car show and wandered around a bit there. There were some cool vehicles. I would love to do an art car, but Russell just rolled his eyes. He says we both have more than enough projects. Maybe Petra will do hers and I can help!

Today we went off to Folsom St. Fair and shopped and ran into tons of friends and generally had a good time until we had to run off to Eleusinian rehearsal. Deborah liked my gypsy skirt with flounces better than the tiered skirt I had in mind for Persephone. I suppose it does look more Cretan. I was thinking color scheme rather than historical accuracy. She didn't much like my Celtic style snake apron but I really don't think anyone will see the knotwork in the dark and I am embodying Proserpina as First Serpent, and I think having snakey underworld energy is appropriate. And it was *much* easier to cut up a Jen Delyth t-shirt to get a snake than to try and figure out and draw a Cretan/Grecian snake on fabric in the next couple of weeks. It was good to be at Baker Beach and do some blocking. It was a fairly chaotic first rehearsal but I feel like we'll pull it together. Almost everyone on the team has done the ritual many times and while that means we are more likely to be set in our ways (but we have always done it *this* way - although we don't actually agree on *this* way ;-) it does mean we all have a really good feel for the arc of the ritual itself.

*yawn* It has been a very full and fun weekend and now I'm going to bed!
