Watching my friend dance at Amira

Our net connection was down at the office all day yesterday. I actually got all kinds of things done (just not the things I'd *planned* for the day). It is rather amazing how dependent we all are on the net! There were many more people in the halls yesterday than usual as we mostly sit in our offices glued to machines. Strange day. I was chafing as I had an ebay auction I was bidding on about to end at like 7am yesterday. And I couldn't check it! As it turns out I got it for my opening bid (a third of my high price) with no one contesting it. Go me. But I'd've liked to have been able to check! *LOL*
Last night I headed up to the City to see my friend Sara (soon to be posting to
slackerstalker I hope!) dance at Amira. I got up to Valencia St. at about 5pm (there being *no* reason to hang out work!). So I sat on the sidewalk and had a pear crepe at Ti Couz and then wandered from bookstore to bookstore. I got a 1916 history of the Ancient World for under $5. Lots of good line drawings/etchings for classical this and that. I am such a sucker of that kind of art! I wandered into Amira about 7:30 and ordered Kefta Kebab Arabi which is just barely on my diet (depending on how spicey the meat was). It was *so* tasty! I think it was okay on the diet too. I will have to try making tahini sauce at home. It was a great substitute for cream or cheese sauce.
Sara came in about 8pm and go dinner too. We had a nice visit and her new girlfriend Nick dropped by so I got to see her. They make a *very* cute couple. I hope things work out. Sara warned me that student dancers go on last and I said I wasn't planning on staying past 9:30, so I apologized in advance if I didn't actually get to see her act. *LOL* None of the professionals showed. Sara and the troupe of four student dancers she is with were it. They went on at 8:30. Sara is quite good, with excellent posture and amazingly graceful hands and poses. I thought she outshown her troupe-mates, but then I might be prejudiced. *wry grin* Sara and another women did solos as did a young man who seemed to be a student of the same teacher but didn't dance with the troupe. That was it. The teacher, who hadn't brought any costuming decided that just wasn't enough dancing so she cobbled together a costume. She rolled up her tank top and borrowed by my red hat society pin to make a "bra". *giggle* And she borrowed Sara's veil, my beaded scarf, someone else's zills. *LOL* She was *very* good and the costume looked just fine. An excellent example of the dancer making the clothes rather than the clothes making the dancer. *wry grin* About 9:30 more of Sara's friends showed up to see her dance. I bid them farewell and headed out on the long drive home. *yawn*
