I read about the Red Hat Society with interest, after your posting.
However, I would decline to join, simply because I refuse to conform to their silly rules and GIVE UP my red hats and purple dresses just because I have another year until I turn fifty! Why should I tone down who I am because of age-ist policies? No one makes ME conform in the name of nonconformity! I've been outrageous since I was a teenager, and don't tone it down for anyone. Is there just a little irony in their premise? ;-)
